Chevrolet Fulfills Childhood Fantasies with Life-Sized Racecar

As kids, we all pretended that our Hot Wheels racecars, easy-bake ovens and G.I. Joes weren't just toys but the real thing. Well, speaking to the inner-child in everyone, Chuck Nash Auto Group is excited to announce that Chevrolet took imagination and made it reality. That's right. At the 2011 SEMA show, the automaker rolled out a real-life concept model of the original Mattel Hot Wheels Camaro.
A collaborative venture between Chevy and Mattel, the Camaro Hot Wheels concept copies the design of its miniature predecessor to the tee. Bathed in bright green, metallic paint and complete with oversized wheels, the model is 64-times the size of the toy. To really nail-down the Hot Wheels look, designers also equipped the Camaro with Euro-style tail lamps with inner smoked lenses, a ZL1 rear spoiler and satin black accents on the splitter, rocker and rear fascia side extensions. Of course, to truly brand the life-size toy, Chevy stamped official Hot Wheels logos on the deck lid, front seatbacks and on various other vehicle parts.
It took a lot of effective teamwork in order to make the Camaro Hot Wheels model a true crowd-pleaser. Each company's design studio came up with its own ideas for the concept and then the two worked to merge those ideas into one cohesive, childhood-fantasy-fulfilling model.
"The Hot Wheels and Camaro brands have been paired together since their inception," says Felix Holst, Vice President of Design for Mattel. "The Spectraflame paint and redline tires of those first Hot Wheels cars have been the dreams of guys for generations, and it was thrilling to inject these elements into a Camaro for real."1
No word yet on whether Chevrolet will turn the Camaro Hot Wheels concept into a production model but Chuck Nash Auto Group has its fingers crossed. Though the models available in our new Chevrolet lineup may not be life-sized toys, they sure are fun to play with.
